Leaving Chicago (emjc)

We had our baby shower today hosted by P & V. And it was truly lovely: my favorite food, my favorite people and their favorite books. In lieu of baby gifts, we asked for people to bring their favorite children’s books and we received everything from counting books to gorgeously-illustrated picture books to the Little House on the Prairie series (very fitting).  P & V also bought birthday cards for ages 1 to 30 (!) for guests to fill out for the baby. Some of the inscriptions were hilarious, others poignant. Daniel and I filled out the 30th birthday card together – I said something about looking forward to meeting the adult the baby would become and Daniel said something about how proud he is of the baby for surviving the Swine Flu epidemics of ’09, ’12 and ’19.

So these are the people we’re leaving and it is so, so sad. We’re looking forward to making new friends in Minnesota but hope very much that we can keep these people close and bring them to visit us in Northfield somehow (attractive baby? cheese? a glimpse of the town’s 2 wind turbines?).

  1. wait, cheese? isn’t that a wisconsin thing? the turbines are enough to draw me in, personally.

  2. Oh thank goodness; I’ll be sure to focus on the turbines. Yes, I suppose cheese is a Wisconsin thing but thought that I could play on the proximity of the two states. Pretty weak, huh.

  3. I wish I could Photoshop myself into this picture! ; )
    xo.
