Above Average & Good Looking: Moving to Northfield

“Off the Hook” and On the Move (EmJC)

June 9, 2009 · 2 Comments

We just got back from the pediatrician’s office and Ellie has almost completely regained her birth weight. According to our very intimidating, no-nonsense pediatrician I am now “off the hook” in terms of Ellie’s weight gain as a breastfed baby (I was on the hook?!). Phew.

Today marks one week with Ellie. It’s astonishing to think in one quick week she’s learned how to breathe air, eat, poop, pee, burp.  And she does all these things very, very well. As much as we’re trying not to be parents who talk about their infant’s diaper contents, I don’t think there is a single person who has crossed our threshold in the past 7 days who has not heard something about Ellie’s rear end functioning. So I apologize to all and we’ll endeavor to keep this to a minimum. Look, I’m going to end this paragraph and put the matter to rest. Right now. Now.

One thing that has been surprising about this week is how portable Ellie has been. Yesterday we took her to Delicious, a cafe on Lincoln Avenue, where I did the NYT crossword and Dan read over his dissertation. She was perfectly content and we even snuck in a trip to Trader Joe’s. I did not imagine that we all would be quite so mobile so fast. I know this won’t last as she grows up and becomes less tolerant of sitting in a cafe for 2 hours but I’m definitely enjoying it now.
